TITLE A Review on Network Security Automation using Python Environments
ABSTRACT Network security has become increasingly complex as enterprise networks expand in scale, diversity, and exposure to cyber threats. Traditional manual approaches to firewall administration, ACL provisioning, threat detection, and policy enforcement are no longer sufficient to provide timely and accurate protection. Python, with its extensive automation libraries and integration capabilities, has emerged as a powerful tool for automating critical security operations across heterogeneous network environments. This review examines the evolution of Python-based network security automation, focusing on applications such as automated ACL updates, firewall rule orchestration, port-security enforcement, and log analytics integrated with SIEM platforms. The study synthesizes contributions from recent research, highlighting Python’s role in reducing configuration errors, accelerating security response, and enabling intelligent, adaptive security mechanisms. Challenges such as API inconsistencies, security risks in automation pipelines, and the need for robust validation are also discussed. The review concludes that Python automation is a foundational component for modern, scalable, and proactive network security systems.
