| TITLE | EV BMS: Fire Prevention and Charge Monitoring |

| ABSTRACT | This paper presents the design and implementation of a low‑cost Battery Management System (BMS) with integrated fire prevention and charge monitoring for electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The system uses an Arduino Uno as the central controller interfaced with a voltage divider based voltage sensor, shunt‑resistor current sensor, and DS18B20 digital temperature sensor to monitor critical battery parameters in real time. A dual‑mode charging scheme allows the user to select fast or slow charging via push buttons, while three relays control charger, load, and emergency cut‑off paths to isolate the battery under abnormal conditions. When over‑temperature, over‑voltage, over‑current, or full‑charge conditions are detected, the system automatically disconnects the battery from the charger/load and activates visual (16×4 LCD) and audible (buzzer) alarms to mitigate fire risk. Experimental tests verify correct sensing, mode selection, protection triggering, and user feedback, demonstrating that effective EV battery safety functions can be achieved using inexpensive, widely available components and open‑source tools. |
