| TITLE | Machine Learning in Hospitality: Interpretable Forecasting of Booking Cancellations |
|---|---|
| ABSTRACT | Machine learning in hospitality is an emerging area that helps hotels and booking platforms better understand customer behavior and improve decision-making. One of the most important challenges in this domain is booking cancellation prediction, where knowing in advance whether a reservation is likely to be canceled can help hotels optimize room allocation, pricing strategies, and revenue management. By analyzing historical booking data, customer profiles, seasonal trends, and booking patterns, predictive models can forecast cancellations before they occur. Timely identification of potential cancellations enables hotels to reduce revenue loss, improve occupancy rates, and make proactive decisions such as overbooking strategies or targeted customer engagement. Experimental studies in this area show that interpretable machine learning models can achieve competitive accuracy while also providing transparency in decision-making compared to traditional black-box models. |
