TITLE Python-Powered Academic Chatbots: A Review of NLP and ML Approaches for Educational Support
ABSTRACT This review synthesizes contemporary research on intelligent chatbots designed for academic use, with emphasis on Python-based implementations that leverage recent advances in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML). Building on the user's base paper "Smart Chatbot for Academics: A Python-Based Approach to Enhance Educational Support," we examine the state-of-the-art in educational conversational agents, architecture patterns, datasets, evaluation methodologies, deployment challenges, and future directions. The review highlights strengths of modern transformer-based models for context-aware response generation, discusses knowledge-base integration for domain specificity, and evaluates evaluation metrics used in academic settings. Gaps remain in adaptability to domain-specific curricula, interpretability, multilingual support, and robust real-time deployment. We conclude with recommendations for designing scalable, privacy-aware, and pedagogically effective academic chatbots
