TITLE Smart Product Expiry Detection and User Awareness System
ABSTRACT The increasing dependence on packaged products such as food items, medicines, cosmetics, and household essentials has made expiry date verification an essential safety requirement in daily life. Although manufacturing and expiry dates are printed on product packages, many consumers fail to notice or correctly interpret them due to unclear printing, small font sizes, faded labels, or unfamiliar date formats. As a result, expired products are often used unintentionally, leading to health risks such as food poisoning, reduced effectiveness of medicines, and skin-related problems caused by cosmetic products. This project proposes a Smart Product Expiry Detection and User Awareness System that automates the process of identifying expiry information using image processing and Optical Character Recognition (OCR). The system allows users to upload an image of a product through a user-friendly web interface. The uploaded image dates, after which the system calculates The system is developed using Python with the Flask framework for backend processing, while Tesseract OCR is used for accurate text extraction from product images. The frontend is designed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to ensure simplicity and clear presentation of results. A SQLite database is used to store scanned product details and maintain product history for future reference. To enhance user awareness and safety, the system provides visual alerts, voice notifications, and email alerts for products that are expired or nearing expiry. The proposed solution reduces human error, saves time, and improves consumer safety. It is suitable for households, pharmacies, grocery stores, and small retail environments, promoting safe consumption practices and increasing awareness of product safet
