| ABSTRACT | Street lighting systems consume a significant amount of electrical energy due to continuous nighttime operation and lack of adaptive control. This paper presents a smart street lighting system that integrates piezoelectric energy harvesting, sensor based automation, and Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring to improve energy efficiency and reliability. Piezoelectric sensors embedded beneath road surfaces generate electrical energy from vehicular and pedestrian movement, which is stored and used to power the system. An ESP32 microcontroller manages energy monitoring, day–night detection using a light dependent resistor, motion based lighting control through infrared sensors, and relay based streetlight operation. A fault detection mechanism verifies streetlight functionality, while real time system updates are transmitted via IoT using Telegram notifications. Experimental results demonstrate reduced energy wastage, reliable fault detection, and effective remote monitoring, making the proposed system suitable for smart city applications. |
